Start the Year With a Winning Smile
Were your oral hygiene habits lax over the summer? Just in time for back-to-school (or even back-to-work), we’d like to help you get back to your daily dental health routine.
We’re not just targeting the little ones, either. Summer vacation tends to be a relaxing time when we set routines aside and just, well, sit back and hang loose. We don’t like to mention it, but vacation’s over! Here are some tips from our San Mateo cosmetic dentistry team on how to keep your pearly whites looking their best all year.
Restore Healthy Habits
This should go without saying, but brush your teeth at least twice a day. It’s easy to get out of that habit during vacation time, but it’s important to remove all the food and bacteria that can build up on your teeth throughout the day. If you can’t brush after every meal, make sure to at least brush before you go to bed.
It’s a good time to replace your toothbrush too!
Don’t forget to floss your teeth every day. We know it’s not your favorite task, but flossing is just as important as brushing; it removes the plaque and bacteria that can get stuck in between your teeth. If you don’t floss, you’re more likely to develop cavities and gum disease.
Mind What You Eat
Ok, vacation’s over – so it’s time to get back into eating healthy, nutritious food and snacks. Eating lots of sugary and acidic foods can damage your teeth, so it’s important to eat a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water!
Score a Mouthguard
If you’re into sports and athletics – or if you grind your teeth at night – ask your dentist about a mouthguard to protect against chips, cracks, and broken teeth.
Freshen Up Your Smile
With summer over and it’s time to re-focus on school and work, it’s also a great time to refresh your smile. San Mateo Center for Cosmetic Dentistry offers several smile makeover services — from teeth whitening, veneers, and crowns to Invisalign braces — our caring cosmetic dental team will rejuvenate your smile to its sparkling best.
Following these simple tips can help you keep your teeth healthy. So get back into a dental routine today and start off with a smile!
